Support Groups

If you wish to share or learn from others experiences, perhaps you would like to attend a support group.

Our site at Central Library houses several external support groups, tackling a wide range of issues. All our groups meet on the fifth floor of the central library, and you do not need to book to attend (unless otherwise stated). If you would like more information about a group, use their specific details or contact Health Exchange on our freephone number 0800 158 35 35.

 

Sizedown

FREE Weight Management Programme. Call 0121 465 2786.

Meets: Every Wednesday til 30th June, 18.00 – 19.30

 

Social Anxiety Group

A private group but anyone can sign up to be a member – http://shyness.meetup.com/209/

Meets: First saturday of every month, 14.00 – 16.00

 

Rethink depression group

Membership is open to all those who have mental health issues and who have been referred to this service. Call 0121 449 6337.

Meets: Every Wednesday 10.00 – 12.30

 

Brightsparks (Community mental health group)

A Support group for mental health service users which is open to all members of the public.

Meets: Every second thursday of the month.

 

Service User Action Group

Support group run by Birmingham Mind. Call 0121 608 8001.

Meets: Last tuesday of every month, 12.30 – 17.00

Walks

Our health walks take place on a weekly basis in various spots across the city.

They are designed to encourage physical exercise, and can help contribute towards weight loss and prevention of depression. They are tailored for all agaes and abilities, so dont feel intimidated.

Health Exchange support

Health Exchange support

You can meet with a Health Supporter at many of our Community Partner locations, at varying times throughout the day.

Supporters can help you find information about medical conditions, provide guidance in how to use our Information Kiosks, and also help you monitor your blood pressure and body mass index

Support-Plus

If you feel your health is being affected by things you are worried about, or something outside your control is affecting how you feel about yourself, we can introduce you to a Support-Plus ‘Buddy’ who can help you deal positively with the problem.

Our Support-Plus service operates from GP’s surgeries and community venues local to you. To learn more about this service, visit the Support Plus pages
