Cancer Information & Support Service

Macmillan Cancer Support improves the lives of people affected by cancer. We provide practical, medical and financial support and push for better cancer care.

Cancer affects us all. We can all help.

We are Macmillan.

Macmillan Cancer Support and the Health Exchange are working together to provide the best possible information and support for people affected by cancer in Birmingham.

If you have been affected by cancer, through personal diagnosis or concern for a relative or friend, our service provides you information and support in a local venue.

Where can I access the service?

Macmillan cancer information is available through Health Exchange at nine community sites in Birmingham:

At each of these sites you can find information on a variety of cancer based topics which you can take away with you, or speak to one of our Health Supporters about.

If you require information that is not at one of our sites, or you are unable to visit, please contact us on 0800 158 35 35 or email info.macmillan@healthexchange.org.uk

How can the service help me?

The centre will provide free information and support services for anyone affected by cancer. You may have cancer yourself, care for a friend or relative, work as a health care professional or simply want to know more about cancer. The centre is open Monday – Friday between 10am and 4pm when our Health Supporters are available to help you find the information and support you need. Catherine Fletcher, the Macmillan and Physical Activity Lead is also available on the 1st floor on Thursday afternoons, from 2pm until 4.30pm.

We can arrange for people with, or affected by, cancer to obtain information about cancer in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. There is time to share your concerns, or to ask questions and get up to date information. We have a comprehensive range of leaflets, books, audio and video tapes on the subject of cancer, as well as access to the Internet and we will be happy to guide you through information materials and websites focusing on cancer and other health-related issues, if you need assistance. But it is not just written information we provide. We can give you face-to-face support; offer a listening ear or put you in contact with the patient support groups in the area

Jo Judges, Macmillan Development Manager, said ‘We are very pleased to be working with the Health Exchange right in the centre of Birmingham. We know that people with cancer need the right information at the right time, and this partnership between Macmillan and the Health Exchange is providing an invaluable resource for the community.’

When you’re living with cancer, the difference between a good day and a bad day can often come down to really small things. Getting answers on something you’re worrying about. Finding out you can get some financial support. Or just having a chat with someone who understands. Everyday Macmillan helps thousands of people to have a good day.
